Kimono Fabric Design Competition is an international design competition sponsored by Japan Textile Dyeing Joint Association to showcase new creative talents in the world.
The purpose of this competition is to engage with design enthusiasts and expand design capabilities and opportunities that kimono decorations can achieve.
This competition opens up to new ideas and creativity. Now the kimono is here for you to design !
This time, we would like to recruit new fabric design from young talent. From the pure white silk fabric, we would like to come up with astounding design of textile you would like to wear. The winner’s design will be displayed in the exhibition in Japan and Europe (Paris, Cologne).
Aside from that, Japan expert craftsmen will use a finest quality of silk to turn your design into a wonder artwork. This is a rare opportunity, even in Japan.
The application procedure is simple. Please design your own kimono pattern(s) and tell us your stories as to how you came up with your great ideas. Drawings, illustrations and pictures are accepted. What’s more, the best craftsmen in Japan will dye the finest silk kimonos based on winners' designs, and the finished garments will be exhibited in Japan and Europe.

This elegant and beautiful Japanese traditional costume, was first worn by people 1300 years ago, has deeply rooted among the people’s heart. Yuzen is one of the most original kimono dyeing methods.
Presently, there are only few top craftsmen left with the skills to make Yuzen-style kimono.
The fabric used in Yuzen is the finest quality of silk made in Japan. There, top craftsmen who has long experience draw pattern on it, thus enabling them to make colorful and elegant kimono with fine patterns. Thanks for their patience and careful dyeing, we can enjoy many wonderful kimono masterpieces.
